Through the Woods, solo exhibition, Stavanger Art Museum, March 6 - May 24, 2015
Curator: Vibece Salthe
“Marit Victoria Wulff Andreassen is one of our era’s most interesting and singular artists. She works mainly with drawing, and is one of those who have contributed to a significant revitalization of the medium since the early 2000s. Her productions are easily recognizable, a fact relating to the way in which she deliberately hones her technique and develops her circle of motifs. She has an exquisite line and works consistently with a limited colour palette. But the refined execution and delicate colouring are used to create challenging motifs. Her pictures deal with issues concerning the body and gender, often through abnormal and unexpected combinations problematizing underlying aspects related to identity and sexuality. At other times we find nature’s forms, trees and flowers combined into associative relations with sexual symbolism. The delicate drawings, paintings and wall works can be experienced as provocative and titillating, beautiful and repulsive, but in this perpetual duality, she draws our attention to core human experiences”
