Marit Victoria Wulff Andreassen (1971, Harstad) lives and works in Stavanger, and was educated at Bergen National Academy of Art and Design, Dept. of Fine Art (1999 - 2003). She works with drawings on paper, paintings, and monumental wall based drawings.
Andreassen states about her art; "My work revolves around how it feels to be human. Ambivalence interests me; of what is hiding, in myself and in us all". Through her art she investigates themes such as identity, the human body, gender and nature. Fragments of the human body appears unexpectedly across the virtues line of her artwork. Plants, intestines, hair and body openings, neatly woven together, create an expression that both seduces and provokes. Andreassen´s drawings and paintings seamlessly transitions between extremes that are beautiful and ugly, bright and dark, masculine and feminine, and are consummated with technical sovereignty as she creates a distinctive expression, for which she has gained recognition through her oeuvre.
Whilst still a student, Andreassen debuted at The Spring Exhibition by The Norwegian Drawing Association in 2002. One of the cartoon-like drawings, which depicted a young girl shown in profile with her breasts replaced by male genitalia, provoked attention and was featured in printed media, on television and on radio. Two of the drawings were purchased for the permanent collection of the Norwegian National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design.
The artist participated in her first museum exhibition “from & to” at Merano Arte IT in 2007, and has in the last few years participated in exhibitions at i Sørlandet Kunstmuseum, Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, KODE, Teckningsmuseet in Laholm, SE, Grieg Samlingen - Oseana, Haugar Vestfold Kunstmuseum and Randers Art Museum (D) In 2015 she opened her first solo show “Through The Woods” at Stavanger Kunstmuseum, which showed close to 100 works of drawings, paintings and collages from 2002- 2015. The exhibition was visited by nearly 11 000 visitors.
