My Stavanger / Mitt Stavanger, Stavanger Museum, June 2024 - Dec 2025

For Stavanger Historical Museum`s Jubilee Exhibition, nine contemporary artists were invited to do individual, site specific installations, celebrating the city of Stavanger`s 900 years birthday. Each artist was given a century, the story of an actual person who lived in that century and a selection of period-specific objects to include in their given exhibition space. Through contemporary, artistic narratives combined with the museums linear storytelling, the complex project came together.

My historical figure, Trau Astrid, was condemned as a witch and beheaded in Stavanger in 1662, by the same men who at that time commissioned exclusive Baroque, wooden furniture and art for their houses and churches. Stunned by the Museum`s collection of beautiful woodcarvings made by Peiter Billedhugger, I felt a responsibility to make Trau Astrid`s destiny visible in my installation. I painted her cut off braid on the walls in bright colors, surrounding the space, exclusive furniture and church art. In remembrance of her and the billions of women who has suffered injustice and violence since then.
